Star Clipper Celebrates 25 Years in 2013

Can you believe it? Star Clipper turns 25 in 2013! Did you know that we’ve kinda sorta been around longer than 1988? Trivia alert: if you remember The Shire, opened in 1980 by Sonny and Carol Denbow, that was our very first incarnation.

1980   University City, MO: Sonny and Carol Denbow open The Shire, a gaming store and comic book shop two doors west of The Tivoli Theatre on Delmar in early summer.

1982   The Shire closes its doors at the end of May, 1982.

1988    On September 15, the Denbows open Star Clipper at 612 North and South Drive in University City, MO. Star Clipper begins as a science fiction bookstore.

We are planning a massive year to honor the 25 years you’ve keep us growing. We want to invite you, our followers, to share your happiest memories and experiences of this beloved institution with us all year long! Every month, we will post a new poll on Facebook and on our website. All respondents will be entered to win a $25 Star Clipper Gift Certificate from us at the end of the month! Thanks for 25 amazing years.
