Hello Las Vegas!

I'm posting this from my hotel room at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas, where I'm currently attending the first annual
ComicsPRO meeting. For those of you who aren't aware of what ComicsPRO is - and didn't click on the link - it's a trade organization of comic retailers, formed to inform and enhance retailers around the country. The group has incredible potential, but really needs to expand it's member base.

Right now, there are anywhere from 2500 to 3000 independent comic retailers in the United States. ComicsPRO has about 90 members. So there is room to grow. Luckily, the membership currently includes from of the best comic shops in the nation and a very respectable chunk of buying power. And publishers and distributors are taking it seriously. Last night I was up until 2 a.m. getting completely smashed in a hospitality suite sponsored by Image Comics. Thanks Image!

Of course, being an organization in its infancy has its disadvantages...the most obvious being that our conference is being held at the Orleans...which isn't on the strip and is surrounded by strip clubs - yes, I know I'm in Vegas. Next year, it't the Bellagio (I hope).

Haven't gambled yet, but I expect to hit the crap tables and blackjack tables at some point tonight.

-ben
