Southland Tales

So...sick...of talking about...X-men and Superman movies...Perhaps it is my great responsibility, as comic book provider, to have a bold opinion about each that I stand firmly by. But I don't. I'll probably go see them. They'll probably be 'pretty good'. But instead I'm going to take my usual snobby alternative approach and say that the best comic book-related movie of the year will be Southland Tales, a movie that I haven't seen a single clip or frame from, and it stars The Rock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Sean William Scott but the important thing is its directed by Richard Kelly, the guy behind Donnie Darko.

Even though that's his first and only movie, its so good and has such an attention to detail (from writing to sound design to the awesome website that accompanied it) that I trust his new one will be even awesomer.

So wait, didn't I say that it was comic-related? Why, yes I did. Its not based on a comic, nor are they going to be releasing a terrible movie adaptation of the movie. Instead, the 'first 3 acts' will be released as 3 separate graphic novels (the 1st is due next week), written by Kelly. The film will then contain the last 3 acts. They seem to be making a big deal about the comics, giving them equal importance in the '6-part story'

You can check out the website here, but I'll warn you, its a bit confusing and esoteric. Its not finished yet, but they're saying its going well beyond the size and scope of any other film website.

If you want the straight skinny try here.

and if that's not enough, check out the forums for crazed fans interpreting any and all known details.
