More Small Press
We got a bunch of great stuff in the other day from small press Chicago artist Sarah Becan, who seems pretty awesome. The first thing I like about her is the presentation of her books. In the land of the photocopied mini-comics, the one with the hand-serigraphed cover is king. The second thing I like about her is her source of material. She taps history (monkey history), a ouija board, and her brother's dreams (I think) for her stories. Pretty cool.

With Monkeynauts and Why We Call Them Robots she gives us some interesting trivia that everyone must know about space monkeys and the origin of the word 'robot.'

The Shuteye series has two stories, written by David Becan. One about a Catalan that deserts his group of explorers and settles with the natives and another about a liar that isn't sure if he's lying or not. They seem to only be connected by the drifting settings and characters that seem to be dreaming. Pretty good, but if you write an ethereal story its hard to give it weight and sustenance.
Same goes for the Ouija Board Interviews, but I still dig em. They're supposed to really be from ouija board use, which I don't advocate, but the comics are good. Equal parts cute and creepy. If you've seen them before, you should still check out the 4th one that just came out. (sorry no pic)
