A Black Hole Ate the Arch!
Last night (or possibly early this morning) I was flipping through the channels while AJ was working on importing all the new monthly codes from Diamond into our database and I happened upon 'The Black Hole.'
Thinking it was the classic '70s feature from Disney I figured why not check it out, right? But I was mistaken - it was a terrible Sci-Fi feature. Sci-Fi has some great stuff (read Battlestar Galactica) but for some reason they insist on making some really terrible feature movies starring has-beens from the mid 1980's. The Black Hole featured Judd Nelson (with really bad pointy hair) and Kristy Swanson (the original Buffy) who were scientists working on a project to do something with a black hole...I dunno. Anyway, as you might expect, the black hole gets out of control, releasing some weird power draining alien and Judd Nelson has to save...St. Louis. Because it all takes place in St. Louis!
Judd's lab is actually the planetarium at the St. Louis Science Center (and it's the first thing to get swallowed up by the black hole). This was interesting to AJ and I since AJ works at the Science Center... Eventually it swallows most of downtown, including the old Busch Stadium and 3/4 of the St. Louis Arch in a highly entertaining display of black hole destructo-lust.
Judd eventually saves the city from annihilation by reuniting the weird alien thing with the black hole - sealing it up forever, winning the respect of the military and getting all the girls. GO JUDD!
